Admissions
The Admitting Department will be your first stop before you are admitted to the hospital or before you have an outpatient procedure done. At Mineral Area Regional Medical Center, it is our goal that patients who are admitted are provided services without discrimination. All information is confidential and becomes part of your medical record.
Mineral Area Regional Medical Center's admission and registration department is located at the rear entrance of the hospital near the emergency room. The department is staffed 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week.
For questions regarding admissions, please call (573) 701-7307.
Registration and Scheduling
The Patient Handbook contains additional information and can be mailed at your request. Always bring your insurance information and physician requests. Pre-registration is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may also call and register by phone. The admitting office opens at 7:00 a.m., and the Emergency Room at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center is open 24 hours a day.
Please fell free to call our Registration Department at (573) 701-7306.
Outpatient Scheduling
Centralized Scheduling handles appointments for all outpatient procedures. To schedule, reschedule, or cancel an appointment, please call (573) 701-7335.
What to Bring
During the admission and registration process you will be asked to provide information about yourself, as well as financial information. Please be prepared to present:
• a picture identification card
• all active insurance cards
• Senior Circle membership card
• any required co-payment
Physician orders and insurance verification will be done at this time.
The patient or responsible party may be asked to complete and sign several documents, including consent for treatment and authorization to bill insurance. Co-payments, deductibles, or non-covered charges will be paid prior to being admitted or registered. Patients who do not have insurance, or cannot pay at the time of admission will be referred to the Business Office for short-term payment arrangements.
Inpatient Stay
The Inpatient Admitting Department is located in the front of the hospital and is open 24 hours a day. Patients coming to the hospital for inpatient medical treatment should access this area.
All surgeries are scheduled through the Surgery Department by your physician's office. Pre-screening and preparation for your surgery is completed before your procedure by appointment. The pre-screening staff can be reached by calling (573) 701-7412/7413.
Arrangements for your admission have been made by you and your physician. Your physician has provided the hospital with the essential information about you and your medical history. However, at the time of admission, you or your designee may be asked to provide additional information in order to complete financial arrangements. All information provided is preserved as part of your medical record and is treated in strict confidence.
Please be prepared to pay for any deductibles and/or co-pays that are required by your insurance carrier. MARMC will routinely require pre-authorization or other financial arrangements prior to performing any non-emergent tests or surgeries. Our representative will follow up with your insurance company to ensure that a pre-authorization is obtained, but we urge you to make sure that your insurance company is informed about the tests or surgery you are planning before you arrive at the hospital (except, of course, in an emergency).
If you do not have insurance, you will be asked to pay for your scheduled service before it is rendered. A financial counselor is available to assist you with questions. When you arrive at the hospital we ask that you bring only necessary items such as:
• Your physician's written order
• Insurance card(s) and personal identification card
• Living will and/or durable power of attorney
• Sleepwear and personal hygiene items of your choice.
It is important if you wear eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, contact lenses, etc. that you bring a carrying case or protective container for these items. The hospital cannot be responsible for lost or misplaced items. In addition, please do not bring items of value such as jewelry, money, etc. The hospital cannot be responsible for items left in the room. MARMC does have a safe where items can be safeguarded if absolutely necessary. Bringing medications from home is also highly discouraged. Your physician will prescribe any medications you may need during your hospital stay.
Most patient rooms are semi-private, however private rooms are available dependent on your location with the hospital. Every effort will be made to assign you to a room that meets your needs. Each bed is equipped with side rails and bed controls. When you arrive to your room, you will be oriented on temperature controls, bed controls, TV remote and in-room phones. In addition, meal planning and cafeteria hours will be discussed.
As you prepare to go home, a representative will discuss any services needed including home health care, durable medical equipment needs, rehabilitation or nursing home placement. Please do not hesitate to discuss any questions or concerns you may have at any time during your stay.
If You Need Surgery
It is necessary to pre-register at least 24 hours prior to surgery to ensure that you chart is ready for your arrival. The day before your scheduled surgery, the hospital staff will notify you with instructions and arrival time. If a deposit or co-payment is required, please bring it in the form of cash, check, VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, debit card or money order.
Day of Surgery:
• Arrive one hour before surgery unless informed otherwise
• Do not smoke, eat or drink anything after 12:00 midnight the day of surgery
• You may brush your teeth and rinse your mouth, but do not swallow
• Call your surgeon if you develop a cold, fever or have any breathing problems before your surgery.
• Please check with your doctor regarding your medications.
• Please do not wear makeup, nail polish, jewelry or contact lenses and leave any valuables, including wallet, at home. MARMC is not responsible for loss of or damage to personal items.
• Bathe or shower the morning of surgery.
• Wear loose, comfortable clothing and low heeled shoes.
• Make arrangements to have a responsible adult drive you home after surgery.
Personal Items/Valuables
All patients are asked to bring a bathrobe, slippers and personal toilet articles. Hospital gowns are provided; however, you may prefer to wear your own pajamas or night gown (front opening). Eyeglasses, dentures and hearing aids require special care. Notify your nurse if you will be using any of these items. To prevent accidental disposal, take care not to leave these items on your meal tray or bed.
Valuable items such as jewelry, important papers, credit cards, keys, wallets, rings, and cash in excess of $5 should be sent home. If you are unable to do so, the hospital has a safe that is specifically used to ensure the security of patient valuables. Just tell the registration clerk or nurse that you have valuables and an envelope will be brought to you in which you can place your items. This envelope will then be placed in the hospital’s safe and will be returned to you upon your request at discharge.
The hospital assumes no responsibility for personal property retained by the patient.
Personal Medications
Unless your physician instructs you otherwise, please do not bring any medications to the hospital. However, we do request that you bring a list of all medications you are currently receiving and how often they are taken. Medications ordered during your hospital stay will be supplied by the hospital pharmacy and dispensed from the nursing station. Again, if you have any allergies, be sure to notify your doctor and nurse.
